 Cape Conran/Eden

25-27 January 2014

Coordinator: Sharyn Wragg

The original trip notice has been archived.

The Long Weekend started with strong SW winds that made for a rough night in the campground on Friday night and a relaxed start to the day on Saturday. Despite whitecaps in Quarantine Bay, the tugs were calm and protected - but only one run ventured out with many preferring instead to 'Café dive' and set up the Club tarp. It was Eva's birthday and she supplied decadent flourless chocolate and hazelnut cake to all - yum!

Warm, calm conditions prevailed on Sunday and Monday, runs to the Tugs, Jacko's Cave (the Tunnel) and the Navy Pier were made. The Tasman Hauler had suffered damage since the last trip, with much of the growth stripped off it, the top deck shorn off and at rest on the seabed, and much of the sand swept away from around the propeller and adjacent seabed. The Henry Bolte too had changed - the large stern section had been completely upended - the prop is now the highest point on the wreck. Water temperature ranged from 22 - 19 degrees, and the vis averaged about 7m. Many a beer, sausage, and Anzac biscuit was consumed on Australia Day, along with the fruits of the sea.

The Eden trip attracted 18 divers and 22 in total. Thanks to all those who came and contributed to make this a fun and successful trip.
