So, Booderee messed up our Green Patch booking at the last minute. Plan B was to camp at the Currarong Holiday Park, a convenient location since it allows the choice of diving the Currarong sites out of Currarong, or a short drive to Honeymoon Bay gives access to the many sites out of Jervis Bay proper.
The huge swells of earlier in the week had left their legacy. In addition to a beachful of boats at Callala, the churned up water was, well, somewhat churned up. Saturday was millpond, with dives out to Currarong Bommie, where the viz was 4-5m. A dusk dive to the SS Merimbula had better viz 8-10m.
Sunday had a slight to moderate southerly breeze, and diving was out of Honeymoon Bay. The early run to outside the bay at 10-Fathom dropoff was greeted with terrible viz, 2-3m. The next run to Bowen Island was not much better in this respect.
Sunday night provided the traditional June long weekend downpour. The Currarong Bowlo lived up to its reputation.
A final run out to the SS Merimbula was made on Monday morning, the viz again being ~10m, with plenty of nudibranchs and fish life to see. Big lumps of iron too.
Many thanks to Michael for towing, and Torsten for pulling boats - successfully executing his first beach launch/retrieval, without incident.
