How do I join?

The simplest way to join is to do so at the ANU Sports and Recreation Association front desk. You will need to fill in a form, provide evidence of current Sports and Recreation Association membership and SCUBA certification, sign the liability waiver on the back of the form, and then you trade some $ for a receipt.

Otherwise you can get in touch with the Club's Secretary and they will tell you what to do.

We can also sign you up at the Club stall during Orientation week on the Club and Societies Day.

How much does it cost?

From 1 February 2007:

Club membership runs from the 1st of March one year to the end of February the next to fit in with the University the and Sports and Recreation Association (SRA). If you join in February, by convention both the SRA and the SCUBA Club will give you membership until the end of February the following year -- so 13 months for the price of 12.

Conditions of membership #1: Sports and Recreation Association membership

To join and remain a member of the ANU SCUBA Club you must pay an annual Club joining fee and maintain current membership of the ANU Sports and Recreation Association (SRA). Every ANU student is automatically a member of the Sports and Recreation Association unless they have chosen to waive this right. Exchange students are not generally SRA members and need to join the SRA separately as Associate Members. Academic visitors to the University are also obliged to join the SRA before they can make use of Club facilities and services. Pro rata refunds on SRA membership may be available for those people who are only here for a short time (talk to the Sports and Recreation Association office). If you need to become a Sports and Recreation Association member, see below.

Conditions of membership #2: Certification

You must also hold a valid Open Water certification (any agency), or be able to prove to the satisfaction of the Committee that you are a safe and competent diver. If you do not have an Open Water certificate we have information on learning to dive available.

Joining the ANU Sports and Recreation Association

All ANU Students who have not waived their membership are automatically members of the ANU Sports and Recreation Association. Others can join the ANU Sports and Recreation Association for a fee under the following categories:

Sports and Recreation Association membership can be applied for at the ANU Sports and Recreation Association, North Road. ANU staff can have the SRA membership for themselves and their spouse paid fortnightly by salary deduction.

For those joining later in the year, or those who only arrive in Canberra part-way through the year, it is possible to get pro-rata Sports and Recreation Association membership (ie only pay for the months left until the end of the next February) - talk to the Sports and Recreation Association Admin Office for more details.
