In 2016, ANUSC membership costs:
Club (and SRA) memberships can be purchased via the SRA online membership system at this link: https://secure.activecarrot.com/public/contract/application/714/12. Please note that only the student membership and SRA membership signups are visible at this initial stage.
All non-students will need to first purchase an SRA membership ($120) before accessing the non-student SCUBA membership signup.
If you are an existing (or recently-lapsed) SRA member, instructions to login are to initially use these login details:
Username: *Your email linked to your SRA membership* Password: Welcome1This is a password-reset system and you will immediately receive an email/SMS with a code to use to set a proper login password.
Enquiries and updates regarding online memberships should be directed to the SRA Membership Services Coordinator at 6125 7781 or firstname.lastname@example.org
We can also sign you up at the Club stall during Market Day (around 15 February each year).
If signing up at ANU Sport, the reception staff can help you meet some of the criteria, such as:
Benefits of membership
Access to cheap, high quality diving! The Club coordinates inexpensive trips to some of the best dive locations in NSW and beyond, has cheap gear hire and two beautiful boats to take you to some excellent dive sites. It's a great opportunity to expand your diving skills and skills allied to diving, such as learning to drive a boat, anchoring and more. Full-time students also get free gear hire for club trips and other discounts. Costs for gear-hire and trips can be found on our website, and are also presented in this 2-page pdf which has been drafted as a concise guide for new members: ‘ANU Scuba Club in a Nutshell'.
To join and remain a member of the ANU SCUBA Club you must pay an annual Club fee and maintain current membership of ANU Sport.
ANU students already meet this criterion: you have ANU Sport membership through the Services and Amenities fee (unless you opted out). You can skip to the next section!
For all others, ANU Sport memberships can be purchased and renewed in person at ANU Sport reception, or online. ANU Sport Memberships cost $120 in 2015, and are valid for 365 days after the date of purchase.
How to purchase: The simplest way is in person at ANU Sport reception, or if you're not a local, you need to register with ANU Sport, then follow instructions for online membership application.
Either way, you'll need to check your eligibility and supply the relevant documentation before you sign up. This will depend on which membership category you're eligible for. If you don't qualify for Full membership, please contact the ANUSC Committee to discuss registration as an Associate/SCAM member (more details at the bottom of this page). Exchange students are not generally ANU Sport members and need to join ANU Sport separately as Associate Members. Academic visitors to the University are also obliged to join ANU Sport before they can make use of Club facilities and services.
You must also hold a valid Open Water certification (any agency), or be able to prove to the satisfaction of the Committee that you are a safe and competent diver. If you do not have an Open Water certificate we have information on learning to dive available. The south coast is a great place to learn to dive!
Complete all fields, supply all required documentation, submit your form and pay the Club fee! More details on Club membership are at the top of this page.
What happens if my student enrolment status ends a few months into my Club membership?
Your club membership will not be valid unless you maintain ANU Sport membership, so you'll have to join ANU Sport as a non-student member, and supply proof of ANU Sport membership to the Committee, in order to continue diving with the Club. Your membership fee will remain at $50 for the year, but the following year you'll be charged as a non-student (if you wish to renew, and you remain a non-student).
Are half-year memberships offered?
The ANU doesn't offer a half year ANU Sport membership, and the Club has rarely offered these in the past. Variation to Club membership may be put to the Committee and offered only at the discretion of the Committee.
So, if I sign up for ANU Sport a month before I get around to signing up for the Club, will my Club membership be invalid after 11 months (instead of 12?)
Yes, if your ANU Sport membership lapses 11 months after you've purchased your Club membership and is not renewed, you will drop off the member list. It's easiest for everyone (and you get the most use of your memberships) if you can pay for both on the same date.
What if I'm an ANU Staff member and I pay for my ANU Sport membership with fortnightly salary deduction?
In this case, you only need to check the box that your membership is by fortnightly deduction. You also need to inform the Committee if you change this, or if your employment with the ANU ceases during the term of your Club membership.
Can I sign up for the Club and ANU Sport at any time of year?
Yes, you may sign up any time that suits you and receive 12 months of membership. If you sign up outside the usual recruiting time (February), processing of your application might occur faster if you can let the Secretary know when you've signed up, so that he/she knows to visit ANU Sport and collect your form.
What are the different ANU Sport categories?
I'm not sure if I'm eligible for a full membership/if my dive qualifications are equivalent to an 'Open Water' certification.
Contact the ANUSC Committee! They'll be able to advise you.
