Annual General Meeting
- Minutes of the meeting are available online (08/12/2002)
- Design #8, "DIVE CANBERRA", was the member choice
for the forthcoming club t-shirt. The colour will almost certainly
be blue with white lettering, "ANU Scuba Club (dive now - work later)"
on the back. The shirts are $20 for student members, $25 for other
members, orders must be placed and paid in cash to the Secretary on or
before the AGM. Sample t-shirts will be on display at the AGM to help you choose
the proper size. Bring cash!
- The committee has
put together a pre-agm report
summarizing the year past. Please read it so that you can make informed decisions (and ask difficult questions :-)
at the upcoming AGM (21/11/2002).
- Added Jeremy Weinman's two motions to the agenda (19/11/2002)
The ANU Scuba Club Annual General Meeting will take place
on Thursday 28 November from 7pm onwards in Manning Clark
Lecture Theatre #5, ANU.
As with last year, the club will offer pizza ($1/slice) and non-alcoholic
beverages ($1/can). If you plan on eating pizza (not to be eaten in the
lecture theatre), please RSVP
to the secretary so we can order sufficient food.
If you are no longer an active member
please come along to the AGM, renew your membership, and join us for the coming dive season.
If you need to rejoin the SRA, you can fill out an application
form on AGM night at the SRA front counter. If we see your paid
receipt, you can join the club at the meeting. (Note that you
will need a passport-sized photo for your SRA membership
application, or the photo from a previous year.)
- 10 minute slide-show of club images from the past year's diving
- Reports from the outgoing committee
- Agenda items submitted by members
- Proposed amendment submitted by Darran Edmundson to Section 6(b) of the club constitution
that "When election to an executive position is contested rather than by acclamation, the vote is to be
held by ballot." Darran writes, "Generally, the Committee is elected by consensus. However, when a
position is contested, members should be able to vote their mind free from the peer pressure
inherent in a show of hands."
- Submitted by Jeremy Weinman "that the Club pass a Resolution to replace Clause 6 (b) of
the ANUSC Constitution with the following sub-clauses, (i) and (ii): 6 (b) (i) The Members of
the Executive will be elected at the Annual General Meeting, or as provided under sub-section (e) of
this clause, and will hold office until the next Annual General Meeting except as provided under
sub-section (d). A person may be nominated for the Club Executive or Committee in absentia providing
they have consented in writing. (ii) When election to a position on the Club Executive is contested,
at the request of any financial Club member able to cast a vote in that election and present at the
meeting during which the election is held, the election for that position is to be by a secret ballot."
Jeremy writes, "[this] is to ensure that Darran's good idea does not burden the Club with red-tape in
perpetuity, in that secret ballots will now be able to be held (in accordance with the SRA Standing
Orders for meetings), but only when they are desired."
- Submitted by Jeremy Weinman that the Club pass a resolution to ensure that:
"Unless specific permission has been requested from and explicitly given by a Club member,
no personal information of Club members or their involvement in future club activities
is to be placed on publicly accessible electronic files that are available for viewing through
the internet." Jeremy writes, "[this] is to ensure that the Club conforms with SRA and Australian
Government policy on protecting the privacy of our members."
- Santa's helper Award.
Presentation of annual awards to non-club-officers who
have contributed significantly to another year of
great diving. Nominations?
- Election of new executive (President, VP/Gear Officer, Treasurer, Secretary), other committee
members (Boat Officer, Student Officer) and non-committee club officers (Lady Musgrave Island
Trip Coordinator, Party Officer). Note, with the exception of the VP/Gear-Officer, the current
Executive has indicated a desire to continue for another year. Duty statements for all positions are
viewable on the web.
- More proposals for the coming year's dive calendar. Already booked are:
- Edrom Lodge (Gail and Peter), 14-16 February 2003
- Lady Musgrave Island (Bill Keating), 4-21 July 2003
- Auction of old equipment

submitted in writing to the Secretary eight days in advance of the AGM.
